About MoraLá

One person helping foreigners navigate Brazil

MoraLá is an administrative assistance service for foreigners navigating Brazilian bureaucracy. It is run by a single person who moved from Germany to Brazil, got stuck in the bureaucracy, figured it out and now helps others avoid the same delays.

The story behind MoraLá

My name is Béla Christiansen. I am German and I moved to Brazil at 22. I now live in Salvador, Bahia. The reasons were simple: the weather, the people, the energy of the country. Brazil felt alive in a way that was hard to explain but easy to feel.

What I did not expect was how hard it would be to get a CPF. It took me over six weeks. The instructions I found online were incomplete or outdated. I went to the wrong offices, submitted wrong documents and had my application rejected twice due to missing or incorrect supporting documents before I finally understood what was actually required.

After eventually getting through the process, I started helping other foreigners I met who were stuck in the same situation - tourists, investors, people relocating to Brazil with their families. I put together structured instructions and templates based on what had actually worked.

MoraLá came out of that. The name comes from Portuguese: "mora lá" means "lives there." It felt right for something built around the experience of actually living in Brazil, not just passing through.

How MoraLá helps foreigners

The focus is on practical support for foreigners dealing with Brazilian bureaucracy, primarily around the CPF registration process. Here is what that looks like in practice:

  • Explaining what documents you actually need and why, based on your specific situation
  • Providing document templates that are known to be accepted by the Receita Federal
  • Reviewing your documents before submission to catch common mistakes early
  • Guiding you through the apostille and notarization process in your country
  • Managing the full submission process on your behalf (done-for-you service)
  • Following up on your application and keeping you informed throughout

For a broader picture of what moving to Brazil involves, the complete relocation guide covers visas, banking, housing, healthcare and cost of living. The Brazil bureaucracy help page explains the administrative support available. The CPF Guide Info page covers the full picture of the guide product.

What MoraLá does and what it does not do

Being honest about this matters. MoraLá is a practical support service, not a legal service.

What MoraLá does

  • CPF application guidance and document review
  • Power of Attorney template provision
  • Full done-for-you application management
  • Plain-English explanations of Brazilian processes
  • Referrals to qualified professionals when needed

What MoraLá does not do

  • Provide legal advice or legal representation
  • Offer certified translation services
  • Guarantee CPF approval (only the Receita Federal decides)
  • Pretend to be a law firm or government-affiliated service
  • Expand into new areas before fully understanding them

If your situation requires a lawyer, a certified translator (tradutor juramentado), a notary, or an accountant, you will be told that clearly and pointed toward the right type of professional.

How the CPF process works

Whether you apply through the done-for-you service or use the digital guide to do it yourself, the process follows the same basic steps. Here is how it works for a remote application:

  1. 01

    Document preparation

You gather your passport, proof of address and have a Power of Attorney prepared and signed at a local notary in your country. A pre-validated template is provided so the wording meets Receita Federal requirements.

  2. 02

    Apostille and notarization

The notarized Power of Attorney is submitted to the competent authority in your country for an apostille under the Hague Convention. Step-by-step instructions are provided for your specific country.

  3. 03

    Document review

Before anything is submitted to Brazilian authorities, your documents are reviewed to catch formatting issues, missing signatures or other problems that would cause a rejection.

  4. 04

    Submission to the Receita Federal

The application and supporting documents are submitted to the Brazilian tax authority on your behalf. You do not need to visit any office or navigate any Portuguese-language government system yourself.

  5. 05

    Follow-up and confirmation

You are kept informed throughout the process. Once approved, you receive confirmation of your CPF number and can begin using it immediately.

Typical processing time is 5 to 14 business days once all documents are in order. Final approval is always at the discretion of the Receita Federal. Read more on the CPF for foreigners guide.
